    As has become a New Year’s tradition for OB&S, Managing Member, Marta-Ann Schnabel, spent the first week of 2024 teaching at Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center during the school’s “Apprentice Week”.  Marta enjoys working with the law students and is pleased to have been invited to do so again by new Dean Alena Allen and Professor John Church.  She was especially honored when Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Piper Griffin and Louisiana Bar Foundation President Deidre Deculus Robert agreed to spend a morning with her class.  Their insights were invaluable!

    NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal has upheld a lower court ruling in an eviction case in which a tenant was allegedly obliged to pay part of its profits to the landlord but failed to live up to the rental contract.
    RMDR Investments Inc. appealed an Orleans Parish Civil District Court decision in its eviction from property owned by 429 Bourbon Street LLC.

    The order, filed Oct. 17, was written by Judge Edwin A. Lombard. The panel hearing the case also included judges Rosemary Ledet and Paula A. Brown.

    The Supreme Court is taking up a case about privacy rights that could limit the government’s ability to track Americans’ movements in the digital age.
    The justices are hearing an appeal Wednesday from Timothy Carpenter. He was sentenced to 116 years in prison after being convicted of robbing electronics stores in Michigan and Ohio. Records from cellphone towers near the stores helped place Carpenter in the vicinity of the crimes.
